The Tampa Bay Lightning released their schedule for the upcoming 2026-27 season on Thursday. The Lightning will open the season on the road Thursday, October 1st, at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers. Then, the Bolts begin the home schedule at Benchmark International Arena on Saturday, October 3rd, against a returning Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.
Both games are at 7 pm.
The NHL expanded its regular season from 82 to 84 games to increase revenue for both owners and players and to allow for a better-balanced schedule featuring two additional divisional matchups per team.
The extended season begins in late September to accommodate the extra games without pushing the Stanley Cup Finals too late into the summer. The league and the NHL Players' Association agreed to this new schedule structure as part of the collective bargaining agreement.
The schedule includes two six-game homestands, one in November and one in February, and a five-game homestand at the end of March.
The longest road swings are four games each, occurring in November, January, and twice in March. In fact, the Bolts will play eight of ten games on the road the first three weeks of March.
The West Coast swing to California comes the first week of March. The Bolts head out to Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton for a four-game road trip the first part of January.
Tampa Bay heads to Sunrise to meet the Florida Panthers on November 26th, and then again on December 26th. The Lightning host the rival Panthers on February 16th and March 23rd.
The Buffalo Sabres will be in town on November 22nd for the second of four division matchups with the Lightning. The Bolts make their way to Western New York for the first time on Veterans Day, November 11th.
Former Bolts Darren Raddysh and Nick Paul won't return to the Bay Area with the Toronto Maple Leafs until February 20th. Tampa heads to the Great White North and the Bell Centre on December 19th.
The defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes come to Tampa on November 25th.
Five of their last seven games are against Atlantic Division opponents, including Toronto, Buffalo, Montreal, and two against Boston.
The season wraps up at home on Saturday, April 10, 2027, against the Boston Bruins.
